Several years ago I was given a round little piggy bank for my birthday by several friends. A very angry-looking piggy bank, I might add. Imagine my surprise when I saw the first episode of Peacemaker Kurogane only to see my bank in animated form. Anyhow, I originally drew Saizou (based off of several screencaps I had made and the piggy bank who stares at me from on top of my scanner) in Illustrator so I could make a Flash video birthday card for a friend, who really likes Saizou and Okita. Then I stuck it on a wallpaper as a joke. Then the wallpaper started getting distributed. And people liked it. So I slapped on a real title and added an anger mark to Pig's face, and there you go. Simplicity in itself.
